Multiple Sclerosis: The Challenges of Seating and Mobility

This course will cover evaluation and training Individuals with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Clients with MS present unique challenges due to the changing physical and cognitive nature of the condition.
This course will begin with a literature review of current approaches to the treatment of MS, specifically as they relate to the provision of seating and wheeled mobility. The evaluation process will be covered, with key information relevant to the person with MS. Strategies for matching seating and wheeled mobility technology to client as well as strategies for training the client/caregiver in the use of equipment will be covered, primarily through the use of case studies. This information will be provided from the aspect of working in two distinct service delivery models: the traditional outpatient medical model in the rehabilitation center as well as an urban, community- based model.
Objectives:
1.The participant will identify 3 aspects of the evaluation unique to the person with MS.
2. The participant will identify 3 strategies for matching wheeled mobility to the client with MS.
