Course description
Multiple Sclerosis, as a non-predictable, progressive
neurological disease, presents unique challenges
when trying to address a persons mobility and
postural support needs. This workshop will cover the
unique functional considerations when working with
persons with MS. During the presentation, the stages
of progression will be shared as a means to
understand the possible rate of change.
In addition, case studies will be used to review
options for seating and mobility, as well as, other
modalities including therapeutic exercise and
pharmacology options will be shared with the
participants. Participants will be asked to share their
own success stories and cases where challenges still
need to be addressed.
Course objectives
• To understand the pathophysiology of the MS
Disease process
• To identify the stages of progression of the disease
process.
• To evaluate the mobility needs of the person with
MS during different stages of progression.
• To understand the postural support and skin
intergrity needs of person with MS, especially in
later stages of progression.
• To appreciate the psycho-social impact on a
progressive disability on the patient and family.
