Speakers at the Symposium

Leanne Ramer, MSc / PhD Candidate:
Doctoral Trainee, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada

Leanne received her undergraduate degree in Medical Biophysics at the University of Western Ontario, and her Master’s degree in Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia, both in Canada. She is currently completing her PhD at the University of British Columbia, working in the Autonomic Research Unit at ICORD (International Collaboration On Repair Discoveries), a multidisciplinary group of scientists and clinicians whose research aims to promote functional recovery and improve quality of life after spinal cord injury.

Leanne’s current research focus is autonomic dysfunction in neurotrauma. Her doctoral research examines mechanisms underlying the dramatic changes in cardiovascular function that accompany spinal cord injury (SCI). She holds a personnel award from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada; in addition, her training has been supported by awards from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.
